CHOOSING A METHOD:
Traditional Therapy or Single-Session Therapy
I am a unique provider in that I offer two different methods of therapy.
Please read further to get an idea of which will be a better fit for your situation.

Methods
Traditional Therapy

I offer traditional therapy for individuals, couples and families.
I distinguish traditional therapy as consisting of several, if not many, sessions ranging anywhere between 2 and 285 (the most sessions I have had with an individual client).
What to Expect:
The first session is known as an “assessment.” The focus is on getting to know each other and gathering information for our work together. I’ll ask questions about the issues and concerns that bring you to therapy, as well as basic information about family and personal history. I’ll explore your goals and desired outcomes for therapy.
I try to provide takeaways for my clients during the first session, but usually the second session is where we hit the ground running.
The length of treatment depends on several factors:
- The amount of problems we are addressing. One takes less time than many.
- The complexity of the problems we are addressing.
- The goals. Some goals are easier to achieve more quickly than others.
- An individuals motivation/capacity to implement what they’re learning in session.
- Time and resources. Some people have an abundance of both and can take their time and go long and deep into their treatment journey. Others have limits to the time and/or money they can dedicate to treatment. I meet my clients where they’re at and work within their parameters.

Single-Session Therapy (SST)

I offer SST for individuals only.
What is Single-Session Therapy? It is as it sounds…
Sometimes, one focused session is all you need to find clarity, work through a challenge, or take the next step forward. SST is designed for just that—a one-time session tailored to your needs. Maybe you’re feeling stuck, need help making a decision, or are looking for new tools, SST provides a space to gain insight, and leave with a clear plan of action.
This approach is collaborative, goal-oriented, and effective for those who want support without committing to ongoing therapy. While it’s not meant to replace long-term counseling, it’s a great option if you’re seeking quick clarity, practical strategies, or a fresh perspective.
Additional points I want to highlight regarding SST…
- A single session may be enough. When it’s not, the door is always open for another session.
- Each encounter is complete in itself. If more sessions are wanted, they are also approached as “one-session-at-a-time,” unless clients want to switch to a traditional therapy approach.
- SST isn’t new. Research on it’s effectiveness dates back to 1990. For some reason, it’s more popular in England, Italy, Australia, Canada, and Sweden.
- What if there are multiple concerns to address? I recommend focusing on one issue per session. By narrowing our focus, we can make the most of our time together.
